Margaret Chan, director general of WHO, is calling further spread of the virus inevitable. " “We are at the earliest days of a global pandemic.” The new H1N1 strain, she said, is “spreading easily from one person to another, and from one country to another” in more than one region of the world." Fortunately, most patients are experiencing relatively mild symptoms with full recovery.

April 25, 2009, near the end of the traditional "flu season" we are facing a virulent "Hybrid Flu", of Uncertain Origins, that appeared initially in Mexico (an area where the flu is not normally a problem due to abundant sunshine and the associated natural vitamin D production). This strain of the flu is spreading rapidly through Mexico, California and Texas. The CDC has stated (reuters link) this strain of the flu may be uncontainable. The Mexican government is closing public facilities, schools, etc. in an effort to contain the problem. We do know that this strain of Flu (H1N1) appears to combine elements of swine flu, human flu and avian flu, and that in an estimated 1000 infections, 60 or so people have died. Currently there is no vaccine available for this new strain of flu, but it is still the flu and some anti-virals appear to be working including tamiflu.

It seems there is always some form of biological disaster lurking in the nearby shadows. For informed consumers, willing to participate in planning and implementing actions designed to assure good health, these problems seem more akin to MYTH than reality.
2008's summer problem was "KILLER TOMATOES" (KILLER VEGETABLES as of July 02, 2008, Killer Halapeno Peppers as of July 30, 2008 reuters)... implicated in salmonella poisoning (salmonellosis) affecting the majority of states and parts of Canada.
Roughly 943 people have been sickened, since April 2008 ... but wait ... there's more ... we don't really know which variety of tomato or where the tomatoes were grown or if tomatoes really are the source of the salmonella. (All salsa ingredients became suspect ... hey, do you suppose it's the food preparation method that's at fault? ... Nah, too easy.)
An engineer's mantra: For every complex problem there is a simple apparent solution and it's usually wrong.
Next came salmonella contaminated Peanut Butter . Question ... where, exactly, were the state and federal health inspectors when that peanut butter plant allowed the growth of mold and other food contaminants in their food processing facility?
I know that local restaurants are regularly inspected for health law compliance.

Now it's Salmonella Contaminated Pistachios . Even though nobody has gotten sick, we're expected to throw out any pistachio products in our homes and await an FDA decree that it's "safe" before buying or consuming any more pistachios.
At least we're safe from salmonella contaminated California almonds, which must, by law be sterilized. This safety measure has virtually destroyed the market for natural or organic raw California almonds, which health food lovers buy for the live enzyme content. Now that demand is fulfilled by Italian almonds, which can be imported and sold RAW in this country. Say What?
Has anybody else noticed that these fear mongering fools have failed to protect either our health or the financial well being of our food industry? Are they working deliberately to destroy our national food production system?

40,000 cases equals about 769 cases per week, or about 9228 cases each 12 week period.
Does the hoopla about 943 +/- cases of salmonellosis, over a 12 week period, in people who have recently eaten raw Tomatoes ...vegetables ... as of July 02, 2008 (I eat raw tomatoes two meals per day, to say nothing of vegetables) really seem rational?
Does this whole thing seem strange to anybody other than me?
It's About the MONEY!
Actually, we are not surprised ... more and more average people are becoming informed consumers ... supplementing their diets with vitamin D3, exercising, drinking pure or purified water, rejecting artificial sweeteners, and reducing their sick days. This means they are also spending less on physicians and pharmaceuticals. (Many of our customers also use colloidal silver to alleviate problems related to the flu and other pathogens. But, it is always better to avoid a problem than fix one.)

Every year, I read the same old statistic: 36000 deaths from flu and flu like diseases, annually ! (288,000 deaths...due to flu... since "9/11") This calculates to about 720 deaths per state, per year (not adjusted for population) and about 14 deaths per week, per state. Since flu season is roughly 6 months long, you should be seeing about 28 deaths per week in your state attributed to the flu...
(Nationally, this is almost 64 times the number of US soldiers killed in Iraq during the same period) DO YOU KNOW OF ANYBODY LIVING IN YOUR COMMUNITY WITH A FAMILY MEMBER WHO DIED FROM THE FLU? I am not acquainted with any such person in my community! (scott clayton, ed)
